In one of the most affecting moments in the Star Trek films, and one of Shatner’s best acting moments in the franchise, Admiral Kirk reacts to the news that the Klingons on the Genesis Planet have just killed his son, David. Kirk stumbles back towards the captain’s chair only to miss and fall to the deck, his reaction running the gamut from disbelief, grief, and anger.

Horner makes the absolutely correct decision to not score this scene, instead letting the emotions of Kirk and the sympathetic looks from McCoy and Scotty do all the work.
