“The Enterprise” by Jerry Goldsmith

Often with these prompts, I like to try and think of something a bit outside the box.

Today is not one of those times.

Because honestly, I can think of no better cue to embody the prompt “Hello, Beautiful” quite like Admiral Kirk’s flyby of Enterprise in STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE. The way the camera pans across the new and improved ship, all while Kirk looks longingly from the shuttle pod. It really is a love theme wrapped up in the trappings of Goldsmith’s epic score.

Sorry to make this one so short, but what more needs to be said about possibly the greatest single cue of Star Trek music ever written? And yet, I’m going to have a little fun here and also post the original version of this cue, which Goldsmith wrote before he came up with the famous TMP theme. There are a lot of similarities here and moments where it almost sounds like we are going to get that famous theme, but it never really appears. It’s certainly not a bad cue, but in terms of the version heard in the film, truly There Is No Comparison.
