Confrontation
Christopher Pike confronts his own future
In this scene from Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, Episode 12, “Through the Valley of Shadows,” Captain Pike must come face to face with his own future—a future in which he is severely injured, and a future that he chooses willingly to save Discovery’s crew (and all of sentient life in the galaxy.
You’re a Starfleet captain…you believe in service, sacrifice, compassion, and love…
Christopher Pike
No.
I’m not going to abandon the things that make me who I am because of a future…that contains an ending I hadn’t foreseen for myself.
Anson Mount’s performance in this scene is simply fantastic. It is also supported by Jeff Russo’s cue, which accents the violence of the training accident; portrays the horror of Pike meeting his injured self; and ultimately bolsters Pike’s quiet nobility and his acceptance of his decision to choose ship and crew over himself.
